Hi All,
My name is Caitlyn and I am the Owner and Trainer here at Paws Laws K9 Training. I am a CPDT who has trained across the country and back looking to make a difference in the lives of owners and their canine companions. ABOUT ME: As a child I would ask every birthday and Christmas for a puppy. I would play the movie Balto on repeat over and over dreaming that one day I would be an Iditarod Musher, or a decoy for a police or military force, handling the best of the best K9's in the world. I had huge hopes and dreams growing up. Then as I got older I started volunteering at shelters in my spare time. I started seeing the "behind the scenes." Only being in my teens and just as a volunteer I was steered away from most of the reality of it, but I knew someday I would find a way to get in there and find out what was really happening. In my spare time I started pulling dogs out of horrible situations, dogs who are severely misunderstood. These dogs included pitbulls, bully breeds, shepherds, rotties, etc. I began to start slowly socializing them and placing them into the correct homes. Fast forward to my early 20s, I decided a needed a change from small Rhode Island, so I packed my dog, my bags, and my dreams and moved myself across the country to California. It was here that I finally realized that my life's purpose was dogs. I was able to work for and learn from one of the most genuinely passionate and elite trainers in California. She opened my eyes to many methods of behavior modification and dog training. She was able to show me that not every dog works the same, and not every dog is going to be able to be trained the same. Not only that-She taught me that NOT every human is cut out for every dog. Just like humans, dogs have their bad days too, and we all have to work through that together, owner and dog to build that better bond. After working and training under her, I decided it was time to take my knowledge back to Rhode Island and start my own business. I was able to get into a position on a Police Department here in Rhode Island as an Animal Control Officer where I TRULY was able to see the actuality of animal shelters across the state and what goes on in the shelters. Animals are euthanized without a second thought, all because the word "aggression" is even said. WHAT IS AGGRESSION?! HOW DO YOU DEFINE IT? WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU?! Dogs are rehomed to the wrong homes all because of the lack of knowledge of shelter workers who don't want to take the time to truly step back and learn the in's and out's of the dog that is in front of them. Society today has become too focused on "Let's save them all!" that people in the shelters have become blind to what may be best for each dog and each dog's training and placement. I stepped away from the position knowing that I needed to step my game up and change the way things worked. I needed to help owners stop struggling, and help them so they wouldn't ever have to think of turning their animals into a shelter, or opening up their front door and letting their animal go. So I did, and here we are today! I currently reside here in Rhode Island with my husband and son and our pack of dogs ranging from working Belgian Malinois, Aussies, Dauchunds, Rotties, our adoptees, our pet piggy our horse and our cat CatPants who aids in helping train dogs with aggression towards cats. It is of great importance to me that owners know that at Paws Laws K9 you NEVER have to worry about your dog being left behind. We work together as a unit to keep progressing forward in training. It's a marathon, not a sprint! With me we train with the "No two dogs are alike" motto. All of the dogs who come through our board and train program or our hourly training are all individually assessed and given their own training plan, which includes multiple training tools. We work with you and your dog to build the best bond we can, so you are able to live the best life together. CPDT PET CPR CERTIFIED PET FIRST AID CERTIFIED |
